Welcome to Loudoun County's walking and volkssport club!
Join Us for Oktoberest
Lovettsville's annual Oktoberfest is coming soon--September 23. Our IVV walk there is always popular.
Walkers come from near and far (Annapolis, etc.) to enjoy a walk on country roads and through the fest area. There is authentic German food and drink in multiple locations (including our start--some say it's the best here), entertainment, and vendors.
There's more information on Our Walks page and the brochure.
Hope you can join us. See you at the Game Protective Association hall starting at 8 am.
Join the Club
Would you like to be part of the club? Get together and walk? Help spread the word about the joys and benefits walking and volkssports? Help with our walks that give other people a chance to walk for fun and fitness, with some fellowship thrown in? Volunteer in another capacity, such as to handle publicity or the website?
If you live in or near Loudoun County and get satisfaction from helping fellow walkers and volkssporters, we could be the club for you.
All it takes to join is completing a one-page application and snail mailing it to us. If you include a tax-deductible contribution, you become a voting member for one year.
See Us & Like Us on Facebook
Welcome to our website. If you live and walk in Loudoun County, we want this to become your go-to site for information.
Watch for updates to the site as we expand our content to include more general walking, volkssport, walking-related fitness and health information, a Facebook page, a Blog, more photos, etc.
If you have a comment, e.g., additional content you'd like to see or a not-for-profit walking-related activity in the county to publicize (fundraising "cause" walks will be considered on a case-by-case basis), please contact us.
Tour Leesburg App Available
The town of Leesburg released an app that highlights sites you walk by in and around the historic district. Augmenting the notes in the club's route directions, this GPS-enabled app alerts you when you reach a site so you can learn about it. Available for iPhone and Android devices.
Group Walks to Continue
The first few group walks met with uneven results, but we're going to continue a bit longer. to better gauge interest.
Here are a few opportunities.
Also, let me know what would appeal to you--days of the week, time, locations--for follow-on group walks. We'll consider them for our future schedule.
W&OD Trail underpass at Belmont Ridge Road. VDOT recently opened the underpass, one of the most hazardous of the road crossing along the 45-mile rail-trail. You'll use in taking the Freedom Bike southeast from Leesburg.
No Volksmarch or Veterans. The VFW couldn't find staff for it. You could always do one of the Leesburg year-round walks instead.
Pub volksmarches. If you are a beer enthusiast and volkssporter, you can satisfy both cravings when you walk the year-rounds in Purcellville and Leesburg. The routes take you near several on each.
