Would you like to be part of the club? Help us spread the word about walking and Volkssports? Help with our walks that give people a chance to walk for fun and fitness, with some fellowship thrown in? Volunteer in another capacity?
If you live in or near Loudoun County and get satisfaction from helping fellow walkers and volkssporters, we could be the club for you.
All it takes to join is completing a one-page application and snail mailing it to us. If you include a tax-deductible contribution, you become a voting member for one year.
Don't forget about our six self-service events that you can walk almost every day of the year.
Check them out on our Sponsored Walks page to get all the details.
Come join in the fun for some fitness and fellowship!
Welcome to our website. If you live and walk in Loudoun County, we want this to become your go-to site for information.
Watch for updates to the site as we expand our content to include more general walking, volkssport, walking-related fitness and health information, a Facebook page, a Blog, more photos, etc.
If you have a comment, e.g., additional content you'd like to see or a not-for-profit walking-related activity in the county to publicize (fundraising "cause" walks will be considered on a case-by-case basis), please contact us.
Want to get on our email list for periodic news and activity reminders? Put "e-Letter" in the subject of an email to the club at email@example.com.
Next Open House-- January 10th
Learn about walking opportunities in the county, the club's three upcoming walks, and more when we get together at Rust Library, 380 Old Waterford Rd NW, in Leesburg on Tuesday, January 10, 7:30 pm. Too far away? We're planning other open houses around the county, including Ashburn and Aldie, as soon as we can schedule a room at those libraries.
There will be information about volkssports, a fun and friendly way to get fit, if you are new and/or curious.
There also will be light refreshments.
Last club-sponsored walk for 2016 on Veterans Day attracted almost as many walkers as last year--59. We saw more walking for IVV credit, and fewer local veterans and their families. In 2017 Veterans Day falls on a Saturday, and the Marshall Center is planning a big event.
2017 walk plans announced. The club has a full complement of walks scheduled throughout Loudoun County next year.
Our National Trails Day walk will be May 20th, two weeks earlier than usual due to the early June AVA convention in South Dakota. Lovettsville's Oktoberfest will be on the fourth, not last, Saturday in September--the 23rd. (Plans for the walk in conjunction with Valley Health's fall festival have not been finalized yet.)
The start for the Ashburn year-round walk moves to the new Potomac River Running store location in Broadlands. New routes, plenty of shade in the parks along the 2 5-km routes. The others in Leesburg (2), Purcellville, Sterling, and Cascades remain the same. (Note: Routes on all these walks, except Cascades, changed during 2016.)
