Walk 5 or 10 kilometers (3 or 6 miles) through the woods in this beautiful suburban park with plenty of American history. There is only one gradual hill on the north route; otherwise the routes are flat over natural surface trails. With exposed tree routes the walk is not suitable for wheelchairs and those with strollers and wagons may have to carry them over the rough spots--we have an alternate 5-km route on paved paths and well-packed trails.
The walk will start from Picnic Pavilion 1 (opposite the visitors center; signs on Cascade Parkway will show you where to turn into the park--do not enter the park at the entrance at a traffic light [that's the other entrance]).
For AVA special program participants, you'll Honor Our Flag, walk on Boardwalks, see Virginia Native Tree Trail on the north 5-km route (the park's Red Trail), and historic buildings on the National Register for Historic Places.
